Hosting a Creation Journaling group in your church or community is great, but you can also participate in Creation Journaling in your home. It is a lovely way to enjoy the outdoors, your backyard, or even indoor houseplants! Creation Journaling involves reading Scripture, meditating on those words, and directing your gaze towards the Creator and his ultimate plan for creation and your life.
In my other posts I talk about how Creation Journaling can be one way to bring balance to the many church activities that cater to specific ages and “stages.” However, it can also bring balance in another way: helping individuals and families bring balance to their own lives when it comes to where they worship. Sunday should not be the only time we think about God or talk about God with our families. In addition, if the only time God is discussed is at a church event, God becomes a “church-only thing,” and not a personal being who is with us everywhere. Creation Journaling is a gentle way to add a new worshipful habit in your life.
If you have children, Creation Journaling can be a way that you teach them about God and how to meditate on his Word, his works, and his daily provision in our lives. It is a way to model thankfulness and the proper fear of God to your children. While it is important that children have an opportunity to watch a community of believers follow God, it is also valuable that they watch their own family choose to talk about and thank God when they are apart from the church body.
